Compared to 50/2 weight thread the extra number of twists in the 60/3 weight coupled with the 3 strands gives it extra strength. In practical terms when piecing with a 50/2 it may be necessary to reduce the stitch length to get a good strong seam whereas it is not necessary with the 60/3 thread.
