Get a grip with these Jaws Quilt Clips from Little Foot. Now your quilt roll will stay in place when machine quilting, or hold the excess off the floor while hand quilting in a hoop.
Jaws are made of Lexan and are flexible. So open and twist to put on the quilt roll. The two sizes of Jaws in the pack are particularly helpful as one side of the quilt roll gets larger and one side smaller. the smaller size is perfect for smaller quilts.
Little Foot recommend that a quilt will require at least 8 clips or 2 packs.

I tried it today and it helps a lot. The quilt is still not perfect but quite an improvement. They are quite easy to handle. The price was okay. Would recommend it
