Polyester Wadding
Polyester wadding is the main man-made wadding that is used for patchwork quilts, and is derived from polyethylene, a non-renewable source but recycled polyester waddings are available.
While polyester is not breathable like many natural fibres it is an excellent choice if you are looking for a thick, but very lightweight quilt wadding. It comes in the widest range of lofts and is sometimes blended with cotton to offer the desirable qualities of both fibres.
Polyester wadding has the advantage of being non-allergenic so is a good choice for anyone who is allergic to natural fibres. It is durable and retains its shape well with minimal shrinkage.
The polyester waddings below are from leading brands such as Hobbs, Quilters Dream, Warm Company and Vlieseline. Remember the Americans use the term batting to describe what the UK would call wadding. See all our quilt waddings here.
